The town of Kapaa, located on the eastern side of Kauai has the largest population center. The 2010 US census listed the Kawaihau district with a population of 10, 699 residents and with a home ownership rate of nearly 64%.

The Coconut Coast of Kapaa and Wailua
It is referred to as the capital of the “Coconut Coast” it is a charming example of small town life with rows of local art galleries, boutiques, and restaurants. A signigficant number of housing sales border Kapaa town in the Kawaihau district. As of November 30, 2016 there were 146 residential sales and 46 condominium sales. The median prices are $503,000 and $242,000 respectively.
Kapaa is a Hawaiian adjective meaning “solid” or “the closing”. Sleeping Giant or Nounou mountain looks down on the former sugar town with its plantation style homes bordering beautiful modern estates.
